Replacement Windows: Up Close and Personal

Have you ever wondered: How  in the world is that made? If you look closely at a vinyl replacement window, you may ask yourself that question. Last week we traveled to Toledo, OH to get an up close and personal look at our manufacturing plant. After a 2 hour long tour, filled with every question you could imagine, we can now call ourselves experts on vinyl replacement windows and patio doors.

So, what did I learn that I can pass on to  you as the consumer?

Did you know that our windows have vinyl welded joints, no screws here! 60% of all windows manufactured today in 2014 do not have welded frames. They are simply bonded together by screws. Replacement windows expand and contract with hot and cold climates. When a non-welded vinyl frame expands and contracts, over time the seal will become damaged and leave way for moisture to build up in between the glass panes.

Now lets get to the science. Low E Argon Gas, sounds pretty scientific to me! Lets talk about the truth behind U factor. Here is a simple break down. U Factor measures how well a product prevents heat from escaping your home. U Factor ranges from 0.25 to 1.25.

If your home has windows with single pane glass your U factor is around 0.85.

If you have clear glass double pane windows your U factor will be around 0.49.

Standard double pane glass replacement windows with Low E Argon have a U factor of 0.35

Now, if you purchase our package for replacement windows from The Window Source of Athens which includes double strength glass with Low E and Argon gas your U Factor will drop to 0.30. This would qualify your windows for the Energy Star label in every climate zone in the us!

To keep it simple, you would drop from a U Factor of  .85 to a U Factor of .30 after replacing your single pane windows with Energy Efficient windows from The Window Source of Athens. This will save you major money on those high gas/electric bills you may be paying now.
