How I Came To Love Working For The Window Source of Kentucky

My friends and family would say that I have a broad set of interests and skills, but knowledge of or passion for windows and home improvement has never been one of them. So, it’s been a year since I started here. How did I come to love working for this company when windows were the last thing I wanted to do with my life? It’s actually very simple, and it can be broken down into one basic thing.

This Business Cares

It was late January of 2019. I had hurriedly scheduled a phone interview with this window company I had never heard of because of a recommendation from a friend. Needless to say, I didn’t really know what to expect. The conversation started with the familiar question, “Tell me about yourself.” I went through the whole pitch; education, background, and skills. Eventually, we came to the question, “What do you look for in a work culture?” As a post-college woman in my mid 20’s, I had done my fair share of job-hopping. I knew the sort of company I didn’t want to work for so in response I answered, “I’d like to work somewhere that can feel like family. Somewhere that my efforts are supporting the team and a good cause.”

They liked me enough because in March I began my onboarding process with The Window Source of Kentucky. There was definitely a learning curve for me. It took me a while to really get the hang of things. Through the bumpy learning process, I felt the need to keep asking them, “Why hire me – someone who knows nothing about windows – when hiring someone with experience in this field would be easier to train?” Their answer is what started to change my outlook.

“Hire character. Train talent.”

Integrity First

As I came to learn, Dee and Randy Milby had done their fair share of job-hopping too with competitors all over the window business. Tired of the switch-and-bait, impersonal way of doing things, they decided to start their own business. One grounded in integrity. This mission spreads through all aspects of their business; from fair and transparent pricing to taking responsibility for their mistakes.

They take care of their employees and customers like family. Just like they’ve cared for me by helping to get my car to the auto repair shop after it broke down in the harsh winter, they put the same care, love, and intentionality into every job they do. I’m proud that I can say I’m part of this team; that I can be included in this “we.”

At The Window Source, we are not a team simply because we work together. We don’t come in at 8:30 to count down the clock until 5:30. We are a team because we respect, trust, and care for each other. We strive to give everyone excellence in customer satisfaction because that’s what this world could use a little more of. Don’t believe me?
